According to Rector's Order No. 77 of October 15, 2019, based on Article 23(1) and (2) of the Act of July 20, 2018, Law on Higher Education and Science (Journal of Laws of 2020, item 85, as amended), and § 47(1) and (2) of the Statute of the University of Zielona Góra, the Discipline Council for Mechanical Engineering has been established.
The Chairperson of the Discipline Council is Prof. PhD PostDoc Eng Justyna Patalas-Maliszewska. In accordance with the Statute of the University of Zielona Góra (Chapter 4 - Collegiate Bodies and Managerial Functions, §48):
A scientific discipline council, for which the University has appropriate authorization to confer doctoral or habilitation degrees, may perform, in accordance with the principles determined by the Senate, tasks related to procedures for conferring doctoral or habilitation degrees.
The tasks of a scientific discipline council regarding scientific activity include, in particular:
a) developing scientific activity within the discipline covered by its scope of operation in cooperation with the Vice-Rector responsible for science;
b) developing activity related to the evaluation of scientific activity within the discipline covered by its scope of operation in cooperation with the Vice-Rector responsible for science;
c) shaping actions related to the submission of grant applications within the discipline covered by its scope of operation.
The tasks of a scientific discipline council regarding financial activity include, in particular:
a) providing opinions on the substantive and financial plan within the discipline covered by its scope of operation;
b) providing opinions on the substantive and financial report submitted by the Chairperson of the scientific discipline council for a given calendar year.
The tasks of a scientific discipline council regarding personnel policy include, in particular:
a) providing opinions on proposals regarding personnel policy in the group of academic teachers;
b) providing opinions on proposals for awards from the Minister responsible for science and higher education for significant achievements in scientific, educational, implementation, or organizational activities, as well as for overall achievements, and opinions on proposals for awards from the Prime Minister for distinguished doctoral dissertations or highly evaluated achievements serving as the basis for conferring a habilitation degree or achievements in scientific or implementation activities;
c) providing opinions on proposals from academic teachers regarding domestic and international exchange;
d) providing opinions on the employment of visiting professors.
The tasks of a scientific discipline council regarding education include, in particular:
a) recommending study programs;
b) recommending recruitment rules and recruitment limits within the discipline covered by its scope of operation.
The tasks of a scientific discipline council regarding the education process of doctoral students include, in particular:
a) appointing a representative of the scientific discipline council to participate in the work of the scientific council of the doctoral school;
b) maintaining ongoing cooperation with doctoral schools in accordance with the regulations of the doctoral school.
